The Board of IPMS UK are monitoring the situation with regard to the constantly evolving situation with regard to COVID-19, which is having dramatic effects across all facets of our lives. As I’m sure you will all appreciate things are changing very rapidly but we want everyone to be aware of our current plans as they stand.
As previously announced, the Annual General Meeting has been cancelled by our own decision and also the closure of the venue. There is no timescale by which we can reliably plan to reschedule the meeting. Therefore we will send out the booklet and voting form as normal and invite the Membership to express their votes by post or scanning and emailing the voting form with no physical meeting taking place.
Please understand this is not something we do lightly, but given the situation it is the best option available to us to meet both our obligations as a company and also a Members’ Society, as it is essential that, for example, we vote in board members to form the Executive Committee for the next twelve months.
Given the possibility of postal delays, and in order to make sure that all Members have the chance to participate in this, we will extend the deadline for voting to 31 May 2020.
Moving on, we are already getting many questions around Scale ModelWorld, given the cancellation of most of the events in coming weeks. The Board will continue to monitor the situation, and will of course take account of any advice or regulation which is imposed upon us between now and November. However, at this time we are continuing to work on the basis that the situation will ease by then and the event will be able to proceed as normal.
We will of course provide updated information as and when we have it, but in the meantime, we hope that our hobby – and Society – will be able to contribute to the coming difficult periods by providing a positive activity for those forced to remain indoors for periods.
Very best regards
President, IPMS UK
We are sorry to announce the following cancellations due to coronavirus:
These are the shows we know have been cancelled. There may be others we do not know about. Therefore, please check with a show’s organisers before travelling.
We are the International Plastic Modellers’ Society, founded in Great Britain in 1963, by modellers, for modellers. We have over 4,000 members in the UK, with a wide range of modelling interests, skills and knowledge. New members of all ages and abilities are most welcome.
What do we do?
We build anything from basic kits to complicated scratch-built models, generally using plastic, although resin, etched and cast metal are also well represented.
Many IPMS (UK) members meet on a regular basis to share their knowledge and the fun of scale modelling. There are over 110 local IPMS Branches scattered about Great Britain, as well as internet-based, virtual branches.
There are also over 110 Special Interest Groups (SIGs). SIGs are organisations like branches, but focused on a modelling subject rather than a geographical location. SIGs cover a huge range of interests including aviation, cars, ships, armour, science fiction, campaigns and Services.
We are also associated with some 70 IPMS organisations around the world, and actively promote international exchanges of knowledge and ideas, and visits to shows and events.
Every year IPMS (UK) hosts what we believe to be the biggest and best fine scale model show in the world, Scale ModelWorld . This event attracts thousands of visitors from all around the globe. Many overseas IPMS organisations display at Scale ModelWorld, bringing a truly international flavour to the show. The competition usually has over one thousand models on display.
In addition, many of IPMS (UK) branches organise local model shows where branches and other clubs put on stunning displays of all types of models. These shows are supported by specialist traders so provide a wonderful opportunity to stock up on kits, accessories and books.
With thousands of members in the UK alone the breadth of knowledge that can be tapped into is huge, and in addition to the many Special Interest Groups, the IPMS (UK) Technical Advisory Service helps members get the most from that knowledge. To email them click here for the Contact Us form, and select either Technical Advisory Service or Armour Technical Advisory Service in the “Send to” box.
IPMS (UK) provides other services such as the Decal and Instruction Sheet Banks. To contact them click here for the Contact Us form, and select either Decal Bank or Instruction Sheet Library in the “Send to” box.
We publish a full colour magazine six times a year , all of the content of which is written by members.
