International Scale Modeling Academy

As Overseas Liaison Officer for IPMS (UK) I was delighted to receive an email from Tomislav Stipanović, in IPMS Croatia, with the exciting news that he is reviving his long held idea and founding the International Scale Modelling Academy, which he describes as – a place dedicated to knowledge, experience, creativity, and bringing people together.

Here in the UK, we are always willing to advise and provide support for initiatives such as this to share and promote ideas, skills and knowledge from experienced, distinguished and renowned names and organisations who are at the forefront of their individual classes and interests in the hobby, down to those who are keen and wanting to better themselves as they too climb the ladder and see their personal aspirations grow and flourish.

I wish IPMS Croatia a lot of luck and will be following their initiative with great interest over the coming months.

Details of the International Scale Modeling Academy

After twenty years spent organizing an international scale modeling competition, I have decided to revive the idea of the International Scale Modeling Academy – a place dedicated to knowledge, experience, creativity, and bringing people together.

The International Scale Modeling Academy was created from a desire to present scale modeling in a somewhat different way – not only through finished models, but above all through the knowledge, experience, techniques, and creative processes behind them.

The Academy is organized by modelers, enthusiasts, and devoted hobbyists gathered within IPMS Croatia, with the broad support and assistance of the Croatian Association of Technical Culture (HZTK), the national organization for technical culture in Croatia.

The entire concept and program of the Academy are exclusively educational, promotional, and non-commercial in nature. Everything we do is aimed at promoting scale modeling, exchanging knowledge and experience among modelers, and presenting different techniques, materials, and approaches that can contribute to the further development of our hobby.

We would especially like to devote attention to dioramas and vignettes – to that area of scale modeling which does not end with the model itself, but seeks to tell a story through space, atmosphere, figures, details, and composition. We believe that this combination of technical knowledge, historical research, and artistic expression represents one of the most interesting and valuable areas of contemporary scale modeling.

The International Scale Modeling Academy is envisioned as a meeting place for modelers of different generations, levels of experience, styles, and countries – a space where there is no need for competition, but rather a shared desire to learn, exchange experiences, communicate, and inspire one another.

Our goal is simple: to share knowledge, encourage creativity, promote high-quality scale modeling, and show just how great a story can be told through a small model, vignette, or diorama.
