Regis Auckland
Tom Foxon of Guideline Publications writes:
It is with much sadness that Guideline Publications announces the death of its company chairman, Regis Auckland, after a long illness.
Regis had been with Guideline from the beginning and, although not a modeller himself, he soon became a popular figure within the hobby both in the United Kingdom and in Europe.
Regis began his career as a printer and more than thirty years ago established a print company, Regal Litho, with his long-time friend and business partner, Alan Corkhill. Together they saw the business opportunity in purchasing Scale Aircraft Modelling and later Military Modelcraft International and transformed the company and its stable of magazines and books into the market leader.
In the early years of Guideline Regis took the lead, attending shows, commissioning authors and really getting a feel for the hobby. In all his dealings, both business and personal, Regis was a true gentleman and his wry sense of humour and sound business sense saw the company through good times and bad.
In recent years, other business interests and ill health meant Regis’s involvement in day-to-day running of Guideline Publications lessened, but his experience and sage advice were always welcome. Regis had recently married Wendy, making plans for their retirement in Scotland, and he will be very much missed as a husband, father and friend. All of us at Guideline Publications send our sincere condolences to Wendy and his family.
