Target Facilities
The IPMS Target Facilities Special Interest Group (SIG) is a group of like-minded IPMS modelers who enjoy building models of subjects that are used worldwide to offer Target Facilities, for training or testing purposes. The current scope of the SIG is to include all aspects of Military and Commercially contracted Target Facilities provision, to include Land, Sea and Air Target Facilities.
Typical subjects covered will be:
- Target Tug aircraft
- Aircraft (piloted) that simulate hostile targets
- Aircraft operated by the old Naval FRADU function e.g Falcon 20 Aircraft operated in conjunction with Warships, 736 NAS Hawks
- Cold War Canberra and other types used to simulate aircraft or missile attacks on Warships
- TFF Lightnings
- Target Drones (unmanned) - e.g. Jindivik, Firebee etcTarget Drones (converted from manned aircraft) - e.g. QFarget
- Drone control aircraft - e.g F7F2-D Tigercat
- Aircraft that can carry and or launch Target Drones - e.g. DC-130 Hercules, Canadian Lancaster etc
- Any AFV used as a practice firing or test Target
- Any AFV or facility used in range control
- Any Ship used as a practice or test Target for missile, torpedo or gunnery practice
All nationalities included (Military or civilian contracted)
Specifically excluded from this SIG are:
- Active service drones used for offensive, defensive or reconnaissance purposes as these are covered by other relevant SIGs.
- Dissimilar combat training aircraft and regular squadron aircraft undertaking operational training are also excluded as there is already an Aggressor and Adversary SIG.
We hope this summary gives some flavor of what it is we specialize in modelling, and we hope you will find our subjects of interest enough to join us. Where possible, we plan to exhibit member's models at various shows both nationally and internationally.
