Scale ModelWorld 2014 Update

2014 Show News
After the success of the 50th anniversary Scale ModelWorld show for IPMS (UK) thoughts quickly turned to the 2014 show. It had been muted that there may be a slowdown in participation of the event after the obvious high of celebrating the societies’ 50th year. The evidence so far is quite the contrary. We have more traders then ever wanting to attend the event and currently have a waiting list of standby vendors wanting space at short notice if anyone drops out for any reason and as in previous years the traders attending the show are visiting Telford from all over the globe. We have more Branches and SIG’s than ever wishing to attend the event, plus more and more overseas IPMS clubs and countries also want to participate. As we only have a finite amount of space the intention is to concentrate on the model displays. This does not mean that the exhibits will be disappearing altogether but we will be trying to tailor them to specific events such as historic significance or new model releases. With that in mind the displays we are looking to attend the show this year are connected to the 100th anniversary of the start of WWI and possibly a new model release to be announced at SMW 2014.

Langham Dome Model Contest

We have been sent a press release relating to an interesting project being run by the Friends of Langham Dome (see the web link below).

The Friends of Langham Dome are calling for entries to its aircraft model-making competition. Winners’ aircraft will take pride of place in the Dome’s stunning new exhibition space, opening later this year.

The Langham Dome project is steaming ahead. But we need some further help! And it’s not money. It’s skill. We need static 1/48 scale model aircraft of some of the types that flew from Langham to be part of our exhibition.

The first model we need is the Beaufighter – the doughty two-engined aircraft manufactured by Bristol that played a hugely successful role in anti-shipping operations. Also needed is the Barnes Wallis designed Wellington. And for those fascinated by slightly later technology, we’re also after the early jet-engined Vampire, manufactured by de Havilland.

Models of these aircraft will help visitors to the Dome appreciate the significant part they and their crews played during and after World War II.
Full details about the competition, including rules and specifications are available by emailing Kate Faire kate@friendsoflanghamdome.org or phoning 07789 636106. The competition deadline is 30th May 2014.

Winners in each category will have their credited model aircraft on permanent display in the Langham Dome.
